Meet Miss Idaho 2008 - Elise Davis
Elise Davis is from Idaho Falls, Idaho where she won her local title and first began developing her platform, "Sharing Strength – Creating Character: Mentoring our Communities´ Youth." Her platform began as a venue for providing positive role models for girls, and Elise created and distributed over 2500 "Wonder Women" brochures to the fifth graders in Idaho Falls. These monthly brochures featured interviews with various women from the community including nurses, teachers, engineers, and even Idaho´s First Lady, Lori Otter. Each brochure also featured a woman from current events or history and a heroine from literature as part of a book club in which many of the fifth graders participated.
Now, as Miss Idaho, Elise works not only to show students that there are a myriad of positive role models for them to look up to, but also to connect those role models and students together on a one-on-one basis by encouraging adults throughout the state to get involved in the many mentoring organizations in their communities. A mentor can have an overwhelmingly positive influence on a child by simply being there to listen, to offer advice, and to spend some time together.
